    Social Skills.

Children who have autism often require specific social skills training to support them in the learning of social skills and to ensure they are able to participate in life to the fullest with their families, peers and wider community. This often includes the use of social narratives, role-playing and individualised social stories. Susan does this in individual sessions with children, She also holds small group sessions for children of similar ages and interests, where they can build on their skills within a safe and supportive environment.

    Play Skills.

Susan utilises age-appropriate play, to interact with children. This develops rapport and provides a platform for natural talk therapy and conversations.

Susan engages her clients in outdoor games, card games, sensory play and activities such as charades and role-playing. These activities teach a variety of concepts through play and support social and play skills.

    Technology.

Technology is often a special interest and an area of giftedness for individuals who have autism. It can be an engaging and highly motivating way for therapists and educators to be able to provide valuable learning experiences.

Susan keeps up to date with the latest technology (with the help of her son). She uses online programs and apps to support children’s learning about friendships, safety, emotions and social skills.

She also engages upper primary children and teenagers through using the Virtual Reality device ‘Oculus’; building reciprocal communication and social skills as they play.
